About The Project

Filming the documentary was our first inkling that there was more to the Fritz Sprandel story than just his Cuban adventure.  The project engaged writing and editorial services to help them organize and tell all that was becoming known of Fritz’s life and adventures. It culminated in the memoir, written by Doug with Fritz’s collaboration, Finding Fritz: The Heart of an Adventurer which is due out on August 17, 2024, the 54^th anniversary of the first canoe trip.

When the first draft of that book was complete, it became apparent that Fritz’s snowmobile adventure deserved a closer look. Doug is writing a separate account of that—as yet untitled—and it will be out in November to coincide with the date that Fritz and Ed took off on their icey adventure.

The documentary is being edited now.
